UNITY Detroit | Currently in Development

One consistent point of support for young adults.

  • Referral-Based Entry — Trusted partners connect young adults who may benefit from structured support.
  • Consistent Case Management — Each enrolled participant works with a case manager to identify priorities, build an individualized plan, and stay connected as circumstances change.
  • Partner Connections — Case managers coordinate access to specialized services across housing, employment, education, health, legal support, and other needs.

Why Detroit

  • Strong local organizations already support young people across housing, employment, education, health, legal services, and other needs.
  • Young adults may still have to navigate several organizations, processes, and next steps at the same time.
  • UNITY Detroit is being developed to add one consistent point of coordination around that existing work.
  • Local knowledge and partnerships will continue to shape how the program is built.

 How UNITY Detroit Works

The model is built around four connected parts.

 Areas Support May Address

Each participant's plan will reflect their goals, circumstances, and immediate priorities. Areas may include:

Housing and immediate stability

Employment and income

Education or training

Health and well-being

Identification, transportation, and legal needs

Other priorities affecting safety and stability

Who UNITY Detroit is designed to serve

UNITY Detroit is being developed for young adults ages 18–21 in Detroit who may be navigating overlapping conditions that increase vulnerability to exploitation.

Housing instability or homelessness

Economic hardship or limited access to employment or education

Foster care, juvenile justice, or other system involvement

Social isolation or lack of stable support

Other circumstances affecting safety and stability

Participation will begin through a structured referral and eligibility process once intake opens.

Who will be eligible for UNITY Detroit?

UNITY Detroit is being developed for young adults ages 18–21 in Detroit who are referred by trusted partners and may benefit from structured case management and coordinated support. Final referral and eligibility procedures will be published before intake opens.

How will the referral process work?

Once the program is operational, trusted partners will submit referrals. The UNITY Detroit team will review eligibility and immediate needs. Each enrolled participant will then be assigned a case manager and work with that case manager to develop an individualized plan. UNITY Detroit is not yet accepting referrals.

What support will participants receive?

UNITY Detroit will provide case management, individualized planning, prevention programming, coordinated referrals, and limited basic-needs support. Specialized services such as housing, healthcare, employment, education, and legal assistance will be provided through partner organizations.

Can community organizations partner with UNITY Detroit?

Yes. Partner roles may include referrals, specialized services, workshops or programming, and coordination around participant needs. UNITY Detroit is currently building relationships with organizations that already serve young adults across Detroit.

When will UNITY Detroit begin accepting referrals?

UNITY Detroit is still in development. Referrals will open once the staffing, intake systems, partnerships, and facility needed to support participants are ready. Updates will be shared on this page.
